Why do your freight charges seem high?

We have access to some of the best shipping rates because of the volume we do, and we only pass on our costs for freight and handling to our customers, but office furniture is different from general small item shipping. There are some unique challenges  that can contribute to the cost:

  • Bulky and Heavy Items: Office furniture is large and heavy, requiring multiple people to hand unload, which often means two people in the truck, not one like smaller deliveries.
  • Specialised Trucks: Your delivery cost may include a vehicle with a tail lift to safely handle heavy loads, especially in locations without loading docks.
  • Access Challenges: Delivery to locations with narrow driveways or with city loading bays away from the destination address requires additional time and care, which can increase costs.
  • Above Ground Level: Delivering to upper floors significantly increases the time required to complete the job. Passengers in lifts often mean limited or delayed access, and carrying heavy items up stairs is highly time consuming.

In addition, our courier partners often factor in costs for things like failed deliveries. With such large and bulky goods, this can have a huge impact on the orders being delivered next, as undelivered items must be worked around or even unloaded and reloaded to accommodate other deliveries in the run.

If you feel your order has a freight price that doesn't seem right, please reach out so we can confirm, or help arrange a custom quote where possible for your specfic needs.
